1. Introduction
Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) invites qualified mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) professionals or organizations to submit proposals to provide individual psychosocial support sessions for at-risk journalists and associated staff, as well as to deliver a one-day online Psychological First Aid (PFA) training in English.
MiCT seeks applicants who demonstrate proven experience, professionalism, and sensitivity in working with individuals exposed to conflict, crisis, and high-stress environments. The selected expert or organization will play a vital role in strengthening the wellbeing and resilience of journalists engaged in MiCT’s international programs.

2. About MiCT
Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organization that delivers expert media services in complex and challenging contexts. Guided by its commitment to transparency, inclusion, and social resilience, MiCT empowers journalists and media professionals to facilitate open, balanced, and informed dialogue within their societies.
Core Areas of Work
MiCT operates across three continents and 15 countries, providing a comprehensive range of media and development services, including:
- Capacity Building: Training journalists and media producers in professional, ethical, and conflict-sensitive reporting.
- Content Production: Supporting radio, television, film, magazine, and book publishing projects.
- Research and Monitoring: Conducting media research, audience analysis, and impact assessments.
- Program Development: Designing and implementing media and communication initiatives tailored to local contexts.
- Sustainability Support: Enhancing the financial and institutional viability of media partners.
MiCT’s work contributes to the creation of independent, responsible, and resilient media ecosystems that promote democratic values and peaceful coexistence.
3. The Critical Voices Fellowship Program
The MHPSS expert will primarily support MiCT’s Critical Voices Fellowship, a program dedicated to media professionals from conflict and crisis regions. The Fellowship provides a platform for journalists who uphold journalistic integrity while reporting under challenging and often dangerous conditions.
Through training, mentorship, and networking, the Fellowship seeks to:
- Strengthen the capacity and safety of journalists operating in fragile environments.
- Offer psychosocial and professional support to enhance resilience.
- Foster an international network of media professionals committed to truth, ethics, and accountability.
The selected MHPSS expert will contribute to the program by addressing the psychological wellbeing and mental health needs of participating fellows and support staff.
4. Scope of Work
MiCT is seeking an individual expert or organization to deliver two primary services:
a. Psychosocial Support Sessions
- Provide individual, ad-hoc online counselling sessions for at-risk journalists and associated staff members.
- Offer short-notice availability for urgent cases of acute stress, trauma, or mental health crises.
- Ensure confidentiality, professionalism, and a trauma-informed approach in all interactions.
b. Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training
- Deliver a one-day online training in English for up to 15 participants, including MiCT’s support team.
- The training should cover:
- Core principles of Psychological First Aid (PFA)
- Techniques for supporting individuals in distress
- Recognizing and responding to trauma symptoms
- Stress management and resilience-building strategies
- The training should include interactive components (e.g., role plays, case studies, discussions) to ensure practical learning and engagement.
MiCT welcomes applications for either one or both of the above deliverables. The organization reserves the right to award separate contracts to different providers if this best meets program needs.
5. Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants—both individuals and organizations—should demonstrate:
Essential Qualifications
- Recognized qualifications in psychosocial counselling, clinical psychology, or mental health support.
- Proven ability to deliver online counselling and group facilitation effectively.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
Preferred Experience
- In-depth knowledge of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention.
- Previous experience working with:
- Journalists or media professionals
- Individuals from conflict, post-conflict, or humanitarian settings
- Multilingual ability (additional languages are a plus).

- Fixed fee (in EUR, including VAT) for the one-day online PFA workshop (including preparation and follow-up).
7. Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be assessed based on the following:
- Relevance and quality of professional qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with trauma, crisis, and journalist populations
- Quality and practicality of the proposed PFA workshop outline
- Cost-effectiveness and transparency of the proposed budget
- Availability for short-notice, ad-hoc counselling
